Solar & Battery Buying Guide
Solar Retailer vs Installer: What’s the Difference?
A solar or battery project can involve sales, design, administration, installation management, electrical work and independent inspection. Knowing the roles makes a quote easier to evaluate.
Who Usually Does What?
| Role | Common responsibility |
|---|---|
| Retailer | Marketing, sales, contract and payment |
| Salesperson | Product presentation and finalising the sale |
| Designer / Admin | Initial design, approvals and documentation |
| Installation Manager | Scheduling and allocating the installation team |
| Installer / Electrician | Final site checks, installation, testing and technical execution |
| Inspector | Independent compliance inspection where required |
Why the Difference Matters
The retailer is responsible for what has been sold, while the licensed installation team is responsible for the technical work completed on site. When these are different organisations, clear information and a clear escalation path are essential.
Subcontracting itself is not the problem. The risk appears when the customer does not know who is responsible, or when site details and expectations are not transferred accurately between sales, design and installation.
